    Google Translate Disclaimer

    The Maryland Department of Information Technology (“DoIT”) offers translations of the content through Google Translate. Because Google Translate is an external website, DoIT does not control the quality or accuracy of translated content. All DoIT content is filtered through Google Translate which may result in unexpected and unpredictable degradation of portions of text, images and the general appearance on translated pages. Google Translate may maintain unique privacy and use policies. These policies are not controlled by DoIT and are not associated with DoIT’s privacy and use policies. After selecting a translation option, users will be notified that they are leaving DoIT’s website. Users should consult the original English content on DoIT’s website if there are any questions about the translated content.

    DoIT uses Google Translate to provide language translations of its content. Google Translate is a free, automated service that relies on data and technology to provide its translations. The Google Translate feature is provided for informational purposes only. Translations cannot be guaranteed as exact or without the inclusion of incorrect or inappropriate language. Google Translate is a third-party service and site users will be leaving DoIT to utilize translated content. As such, DoIT does not guarantee and does not accept responsibility for, the accuracy, reliability, or performance of this service nor the limitations provided by this service, such as the inability to translate specific files like PDFs and graphics (e.g. .jpgs, .gifs, etc.).

    DoIT provides Google Translate as an online tool for its users, but DoIT does not directly endorse the website or imply that it is the only solution available to users. All site visitors may choose to use alternate tools for their translation needs. Any individuals or parties that use DoIT content in translated form, whether by Google Translate or by any other translation services, do so at their own risk.     ONLINE AND PAPER APPLICATIONS INSTRUCTIONS

    IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY AND RECENTLY DISCHARGED MILITARY VETERANS & SPOUSES

    Pursuant to the Veterans Full Employment Act of 2013, military veterans discharged within one (1) year of application for licensing or registration qualify for expedited processing of applications and review of equivalency requests for military training. The Board will expedite review and processing of applications of any military schools or courses submitted as qualifying equivalents for required educational licensing/registration educational standards. The Board extends these privileges to active duty military, including reservists called to active duty for training or deployment. These provisions also fully apply to spouses of active duty and qualifying veterans. If requested, the Board will also provide counseling assistance to qualifying veterans, active duty personnel, and spouses on application, licensing and credentialing issues.

    Before you begin, you will need the following:

    • Internet access;

    • A valid email address. Once you start an application, you will receive an email with your application ID.  If you do not receive an email, please check your SPAM folder. (Note: Please make sure you add mdh.acupuncture@maryland.gov to your trusted/allowed email address list to ensure the email does not get sent to your spam folder or get filtered out of your email before it is received.);

    • Your Visa or MasterCard. The Board does NOT accept checks or money orders for online applications. Your application is considered incomplete until we receive payment.

    Depending on the type of application you are completing, you may have to send in additional paperwork by mail. See below:


    INITIAL LICENSURE APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

    1.  APPLICATION – A completed application form is required of all applicants.  

    **ONLINE APPLICATION: Applicants pay the one-time application fee $525.00**  
    (Fees are not refundable)


    2.  PAYMENT METHODS:

    • Select Visa or MasterCard credit card payment, OR

    • Select PAYMENT BY MAIL.  You may mail a check or money order in the amount of $525.00 made payable to the Maryland Board of Acupuncture. Your license will not be processed until payment is received.

    4.  REQUIRED DOCUMENTS for ONLINE INITIAL APPLICATION:  
    (Please submit all required documents via the online email (mdh.acupuncture@maryland.gov) or mailed directly to the Board.)


    1.  If applying through graduation from an accredited course of training (of at least 1,800 hours, including 300 clinical hours) that is approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission or approved by the ACAOM, you will need to have sent in:

    • Official Transcript mailed directly from school

    2.  If applying through Achievement of a Diplomate in Acupuncture from the NCCAOM, you will need to have sent in:

    • NCCAOM  Scores mailed directly from the NCCAOM

    3.  An applicant must also demonstrate proof of proficiency in the written and oral communication of the English and must send in:

    • TOEFL Exam Scores directly from the organization

    • Transcript showing completion of 60 credits from an English-speaking undergraduate school or English-speaking professional school

    4.  Current head and shoulder PHOTO (emailed to mdh.acupuncture@maryland.gov)

    LATE RENEWAL, INACTIVE, REINSTATEMENT

    LATE RENEWAL:

    A late renewal means that you have sent in your renewal application within a 30-day grace period after the expiration date of your license. If you file a late renewal, you will be required to pay a $100 late fee. Please remember that a late renewal only applies if you submit your application and fee within 30 days after the expiration date. After that period, you will be required to reinstate your license.

    PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU FAIL TO RENEW YOUR LICENSE ON TIME YOU MAY BE CONSIDERED PRACTICING WITHOUT A LICENSE AND MAY BE CHARGED IN VIOLATION OF THE MARYLAND ACUPUNCTURE PRACTICE ACT.

    INACTIVE:

    Recommended for licensees who will not be practicing acupuncture in Maryland for more than 2 years. If you know that you will be out of state for a period or want to go on maternity leave, you may think about placing your license on inactive status. This process avoids the higher cost of reinstatement. To become inactive you simply complete an inactive application, pay a $100 fee and request that you be placed on an inactive list. Upon your return to your Maryland practice, you can apply for Reactivation Online , pay the current renewal fee and provide documentation of 30 CEU’s. Inactive status is limited to a 6 year time period.

    REINSTATEMENT APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

    Thirty days after the expiration date of a license, a licensee whose license has expired without seeking inactive status may have the license reinstated.

    1.  APPLICATION – A completed application form is required of all applicants.


    FEES –$200 Reinstatement Fee plus $525 renewal fee plus MHCC fee $26.00 (Total $751.00).
    (Fees are not refundable)


    2.  PAYMENT METHODS:

    • Select Visa or MasterCard credit card payment (ONLINE APPLICANTS ONLY) OR

    • Select PAYMENT BY MAIL.  You may mail a check or money order in the amount of $751.00 made payable to the Maryland Board of Acupuncture. Your license will not be processed until payment is received.


    REQUIRED DOCUMENTS –Please submit all required documents via email mdh.acupuncture@maryland.gov  (ONLINE APPLICANTS ONLY) or mail directly to the Board.

    1.  Thirty hours of continuing education for each renewal period the license has lapsed, not to exceed 60 hours; or

    2.   Passage of the acupuncture exam given by the NCCAOM within 4 years from the date of reinstatement.


    REACTIVATION APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

    *THIS IS ONLY FOR APPLICANTS WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY APPLIED FOR INACTIVE STATUS AND WANT TO REACTIVATE A LICENSE.

    APPLICATION – A completed application form is required of all applicants.

    4.  REQUIRED DOCUMENTS –Please submit all required documents via email mdh.acupuncture@maryland.gov (ONLINE APPLICANTS ONLY) or mail directly to the Board. You must submit proof of competition of 30 continuing education hours. You can check whether you are on Inactive status via the Board's website Verification Page . Click “Verify a license.”  You can enter your last name or license number to search for your status.


    Note: Inactive status is limited to a 6 year time period. After 6 years of being Inactive, you will be required to apply for a new license.
