Guidance Regarding Continuing Education Requirements for the 2019 Renewal
The following is information and advice for individuals holding a full license in audiology or speech - language pathology with an expiration date of May 31, 2019 .
For audiologists that have already renewed their license at least once the current continuing education period is June 1, 2017 through May 31, 2019 . Licensed audiologists must earn at least 30 .0 CEUs to qualify for renewal of a license that expires on May 31, 2019 . The continuing education requirement will be 30.0 hours with at least 20.0 hours in the area of licensure and not more than 10.0 hour s in related areas.
For speech-language pathologists who have already renewed their license at least once the current continuing education period is January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2018 . Licensed speech-language pathologists must earn at least 30 .0 CEUs to qualify for renewal of a license that expires on May 31, 2019 . The continuing education requirement will be 30.0 hours with at least 20.0 hours in the area of licensure and not more than 10.0 hours in related areas.
Renewal License To Be Issued with an Expiration Date of May 31, 2021
Renewal notices will be mailed in March 2019. The online renewal system will be open at that time. Once the renewal is complete the renewal license will reflect an expiration date of May 31, 2021.
Continuing Education Audit
At the time of license renewal, the Board must audit 10% of all licensees in accordance with COMAR 10.41.03.06(E). Licensees selected for audit are chosen randomly by algorithm by an independent third-party administrator. A licensee selected for audit that renews with the on-line renewal process must submit the CEU documentation to the Board in a timely manner. A licensee selected for audit that elects to use the paper-based renewal process must submit document ation of the CE hours of courses completed with the paper renewal application.
Pursuant to COMAR 10.41.03.06D(4) the Board will not issue a renewal license to a l icensee that has been selected for an audit until substantiation of the continuing education requirements has been reviewed and accepted by the Board.
Continuing education audit notices for speech-language pathologists will be mailed in October 2018. Continuing education audit notices for audiologists will be mailed in March 2019.
Please note that licensees who are audited in one renewal period are not exempt from audits in subsequent renewal periods.
Documentation of Continuing Education
Maintaining documentation of continuing education credits is the responsibility of the licensee. A licensee must:
Obtain a certificate of completion or a verification letter for each program attended;
Maintain the certificates or verifications in professional files (do not mail them to the Board);
Declare to the Board the completion of the required CEU's at the time of license renewal (do not make this declaration if your CEU hours are not completed); and
Maintain all CE records for at least four (4) years after the renewal is completed.
Licensees are reminded that continuing education documentation should be sent to the Board only if directed to do so as part of the audit process.
