    2010 Biennial Renewal Frequently Asked Questions

    Q. When will the Board send out information in regard to this 2010 Biennial Renewal?

    A. Although Renewal notices are required to be mailed approximately 30 days prior to the expiration date noted on the license/registration (10-31-2010); the Board sent out Maryland Renewal Reminder Postcards in July and an official Renewal Letter with instructions and procedures for MD first online renewal process on August 20, 2010. If you did not receive your renewal notice, contact the Board Office to make sure we have your correct/current mailing address. Also visit this website under “Renewal Information” for a copy of all renewal information sent out this biennial.

    Q. For this renewal I do not have a computer or any computer access to renew my license or go to an inactive status; what do I do?

    Q. What is a good source for information about the 2010 Biennial Renewal?

    A. The MD Board of Chiropractic & Massage Therapy Website and by contacting the Board directly (410) 764-4726 and (410) 764-2965.

    Q. Is it a requirement that I maintain my National Certification in order to renew my license or registration.

    A. No. National Certification is only required when you apply for your initial license.

    Q. What are the Continuing Education Requirements for Massage Therapy?

    A. 3 hours in professional ethics or jurisprudence; 3 hours in communicable disease education which includes AIDS/HIV; and 18 hours in massage-related courses as approved by the Board. In addition to the requirements of §A of this regulation, at the time of renewal, a certificate or a registration holder shall possess a certification of qualification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

    Q. If an initial license or registration was issued within 12 months or less of a biennial renewal; is the license or registration holder required to complete the 24 continuing education units for that biennial period?

    A. No. The license or registration holder is exempt from CEU requirement; but the license or registration holder must renew the license or registration during that Biennial Renewal period.

    Q. What happens if I am audited for CEUs?

    A. The Board audits a percentage of all currently Licensed Massage Therapists and Registered Massage Practitioners to ensure compliance with the continuing education requirements. If audited, you will be required to prove compliance which Includes course/program certificated of training or transcripts mailed directly to the Board with your renewal printout. You are required to keep records for four years documenting attendance description of training.

    Q. I’ve had my license/registration for less than two years. Are license and registration fees prorated?

    A. No. Regardless of when you received your massage license or registration, you must pay the full fee. There are no prorated provisions in the statute or regulations.

    Q. During this 2010 Biennial Renewal; who can renew online?

    A. Only active license or registration holders renewing a license or registration and active license or registration holders seeking to become inactive for 2010-2012.

    Q. If a license or registration holder is in an “Inactive” status, can the license or registration holder “reactivate” the license or registration on the online renewal system?

    A. No. The license or registration holder must download the “Reactivation For Renewal” form on the Board’s website and complete in its’ entirety and attach all required certificates, documentation and fees.

    Q. If a license or registration holder is in a “non-renewed” status; can the license or registration holder “reinstate” the license or registration on the online renewal system?

    A. No. The license or registration holder must download the “Reinstatement For Renewal” form on the Board’s website and complete in its’ entirety and attach all required certificates, documentation, and fees.

    Q. What is a TAX DELINQUENCY AUDIT?

    A. If you have been flagged by the MD State Office of Comptroller for state tax or child support delinquencies, you will be notified by the Board and will not be allowed to complete renewal unless/until you satisfy the delinquency with the Comptroller. The Board has no authority to make any exceptions. All steps to satisfy the delinquency must be done directly and exclusively with the Comptroller. You may not practice without a license/registration and will not have one issued unless/until the Office of Comptroller clears you from its delinquent list.

    Q. What is the 2010 Biennial Renewal deadline?

    A. ALL RENEWAL APPLICANTS MUST COMPLETE THEIR RENEWAL BEFORE MIDNIGHT, OCTOBER 31, 2010. AFTER MIDNIGHT, A $200.00 LATE FEE WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY ASSESSED. NOTE: YOU CANNOT PRACTICE WITHOUT A RENEWED LICENSE OR REGISTRATION.

    Q. What method(s) of payment will be accepted for the online renewal?

    A. The system accepts only credit/debit for Visa or MasterCard. No cash, checks or money orders are accepted. After successful completion of your renewal session, you may download a receipt to verify your successful renewal.
