Coverage for Pregnant Women
If you make between $15,856 and $38,775, you may qualify for Medicaid while you’re pregnant.
- If you need health insurance, go to www.MarylandHealthConnection.gov or call 1-855-642-8572 to apply for health coverage.
- If you have a health plan that you bought through Maryland Health Connection, log on to your account and update your user information about your pregnancy. By updating your information, Maryland Health Connection will be able to determine if you are eligible for continued financial assistance for your private health plan or Medicaid coverage during your pregnancy.
If you are eligible, Medicaid will cover your medical expenses during your pregnancy and for two months after your baby is born. Medicaid is free and has no co-pays or deductibles for pregnant women.
If you were insured by a private plan and started seeing a prenatal care provider, you can continue to see that provider if s/he takes Medicaid.
To get services for yourself, you need to join a managed care organization (MCO). Your MCO will cover the cost of prenatal care during your pregnancy.
- If you already have a provider for your prenatal care, join the MCO that your doctor belongs to.
- If you have already started prenatal care, you may be able to stay with your prenatal care provider even if the provider does not belong to the MCO you pick. Make sure your provider takes Medicaid.
- Call 1-800-977-7388 if you need helping picking an MCO.
Call your new MCO to get a prenatal appointment if you have not started prenatal care.
Call the Help Line for Pregnant Women at 1-800-456-8900 if you are having trouble getting healthcare from your MCO or your doctor.
Your newborn will automatically qualify for Medicaid for 13 months and be enrolled in your MCO.
After your post-partum Medicaid coverage ends, you need to update your information on Maryland Health Connection. By updating your information, Maryland Health Connection will be able to determine if you are eligible for continued Medicaid coverage or financial assistance to purchase a qualified health plan and with your medical care costs.
