Free kids safety seat checkup to be held Wednesday at Harford Sheriff’s Office
Technicians will be on hand to help motorists ensure proper installation, usage
EDGEWOOD, MD – (March 30, 2015) — There will be a free car safety seat checkup event on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Southern Precinct at 1305 Pulaski Hwy, Edgewood.
Parents and other caregivers will be able to find out if they are installing and using their car seats or booster seats properly, and will be able to learn more about how to keep children safe in the car. Parents should arrive with seats already installed to the best of their ability, and they should bring both the vehicle and safety seat owner’s manuals with them.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children, so that child-passenger safety technicians can assess how the child fits in the seat. If the child will not be present for the seat check, parents should place a piece of tape on the car seat, at the level of the child’s shoulders, so that technicians can accurately assess the child's position in the seat. Parents should be prepared to ask questions and to be involved in the seat-checking process; and parents might want to bring an additional adult to supervise children while they work with seat technicians.
The event is sponsored by the Harford County Child Passenger Safety Team, which comprises various agencies throughout the county. To make an appointment for a car seat checkup appointment for this event, please call 410-638-4514.
