    Google Translate Disclaimer

    The Maryland Department of Information Technology (“DoIT”) offers translations of the content through Google Translate. Because Google Translate is an external website, DoIT does not control the quality or accuracy of translated content. All DoIT content is filtered through Google Translate which may result in unexpected and unpredictable degradation of portions of text, images and the general appearance on translated pages. Google Translate may maintain unique privacy and use policies. These policies are not controlled by DoIT and are not associated with DoIT’s privacy and use policies. After selecting a translation option, users will be notified that they are leaving DoIT’s website. Users should consult the original English content on DoIT’s website if there are any questions about the translated content.

    DoIT provides Google Translate as an online tool for its users, but DoIT does not directly endorse the website or imply that it is the only solution available to users.     Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators 

    • 4 year terms

    • 2 – Related professions – shall be individuals who are not nursing home administrators but, who are engaged actively in professions that are concerned with the care of chronically ill, infirm, or aged individuals;

    • 2 - Licensed nursing home administrators who are practicing actively and have at least 5 years experience as licensed nursing home administrators  

    APPOINTMENT QUALIFICATIONS   

       1.  Except for the consumer members and the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, the Governor shall appoint each Board member, with the advice of the Secretary. 

       2.  The Secretary shall make each recommendation after consulting with the associations and societies appropriate to the disciplines and professions representative of the vacancy to be filled. 

       3.   Qualifications -- In general. -- Each Board member shall: 

            (1) Be a United States citizen or have declared an intent to become a United States citizen; and 

            (2) Have resided in this State for at least 1 year before appointment to the Board.   

    At the end of a term, a member continues to serve until a successor is appointed and qualifies.   A member who is appointed after a term has begun serves only for the rest of the term and until a successor is appointed and qualifies. A member may not serve more than 2 consecutive full terms.

    To the extent practicable, the Governor shall fill any vacancy on the Board within 60 days of the date of the vacancy.

    REGULAR BOARD MEETINGS: ​ ​

    DAY:  2nd Wednesday of each month
    TIME:  9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (approximately)
    PLACE: 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21215
                       

    FREQUENCY:  9 times per year unless additional meetings are required, usually during the months of February, March, April, May, June, September, October, November & December 

    COMMITTEE MEETINGS: 

    Credentials, Trainee Monitoring, Legislative, Disciplinary, Examination, HIV Infected Practitioners Policy, and Nursing Home Administrator Rehabilitation Committee. 

    FREQUENCY:   

    DETAIL OF MONTHLY TIME COMMITMENT: 

    Credentials Committee meets 10 times per year unless additional meetings are required; Visits to nursing homes to monitor trainees can be on a monthly basis, and members volunteer according to geographic locations; Disciplinary meets in person or via teleconference 9 times per year; and all other committees listed above meet as needed.  

    FUNCTION OF BOARD/COMMISSION: (Brief Description)  

    The State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators operates under the provisions of Title 9 of the Health Occupations Article. The responsibilities of the Board are to develop, administer and enforce examination and educational standards, which must be met by individuals who seek to receive and retain a license as a nursing home administrator. The Board licenses, regulates and disciplines nursing home administrators in Maryland.

    COMPENSATION

    $75.00 Per diem and mileage of 55.5per mile.   

    OTHER DUTIES OF MEMBERS: (Types of Committees. Exams, ect.) 

    Credentials Committee: Interviews all applicants for licensure, Administrator-In-Training programs, etc.

    Disciplinary Committee: Reviews all complaints, and survey results from the Office of Health Care Quality that cites a “G” level or higher deficiency, as well as any positive response to a character and fitness question on applications for original and renewal of license.  

    Legislative Committee: Reviews all proposed legislation concerning the Board, rules and regulation amendments, etc. Attends legislative hearings in Annapolis.  

    Examination Committee: Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations to the Board relative to proposed questions that will be incorporated in the State’s Standards examination that all applicants are required to pass before a license can be issued. 

    HIV Infected Practitioners Policy Committee: Reviews information and also attends meeting scheduled by D.H.M.H.  

    Nursing Home Administrator Rehabilitation Committee: Assists nursing home administrators who might have alcohol and/or drug related problems.  

    Visitation Committee: Monthly visits to various nursing homes to monitor AIT programs are shared by all Board members on an as-needed basis. Board members must be able to travel to nursing homes in their geographic location to monitor AIT programs.
