Swimming at beaches, lakes and rivers
To avoid swimming in unsafe water, check if there are any beach alerts at
Maryland Healthy Beaches
. Also, avoid swimming for 2 days after heavy rainfall and
near storm drains.
Other tips for staying healthy while at the beach, lake, or river:
Do not swallow water while swimming.
Do not go in the water if you have diarrhea or open cuts or wounds.
Change diapers in bathrooms, not near the water.
Shower after swimming.
