Walk Maryland Day is October 6, 2021

What is Walk Maryland Day?

Walk Maryland Day is a celebration of our official state exercise--walking! It is always celebrated statewide on the first Wednesday in October, to coincide with Walk to School Day. It is a call to action to promote awareness about regular walking year-round, to encourage physical activity and improved health, engaging Marylanders with fun walks for all.

October 6 marks the 7th Annual Walk Maryland Day celebration. The COVID-19 pandemic meant cancelations or changes in 2020, with several walks being virtual; this year walks will be in-person (stay tuned for updates that will be dependent on pandemic mandates and rules).
All Marylanders are encouraged to take time on that day to participate in some type of physical activity (ex., walking). Residents can become Walk Maryland Day Walk Leaders, join one of the already existing walks, or register to take walks alone. To register as a Walk Leader, please visit https://forms.aweber.com/form/99/2121501799.htm.

We encourage everyone to make walking a regular habit, not just on October 6. Be a part of the Walktober movement to make at least 150 minutes of physical activity weekly your year round habit!
