Module #6 – Helping with Breastfeeding

Overview:

Module #6 will prepare practitioners to help new mothers with breastfeeding. It will cover topics such as positioning for comfortable breastfeeding, how to assess breastfeeding, and how to recognize signs of optimal positioning and attachment. Practitioners will also learn how to identify common problems and strategies for providing assistance.

Objectives:

  • Identify and demonstrate comfortable positions mothers may use to breastfeed.
  • Review components of a breastfeeding assessment.
  • Identify signs of an effective latch and milk transfer.
  • Initiation of breastfeeding in a healthy, full-term infant.
  • Discuss common problems and when to help.
