Maryland WIC Advisory Council


The purpose of the WIC Advisory Council is to provide information, consult with, and advise the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in developing and administering the Maryland WIC Program.  The goal of the Advisory Council is to ensure that the WIC Program operates efficiently and is available to all those eligible in the State of Maryland.

The WIC Advisory Council also serves as an advocate on behalf of the WIC Program in matters of general concern to the Program participants or to the Council.  The Advisory Council composition is governed by its bylaws  and includes advocacy organization representatives, current or previous WIC Participants, health practitioners, nutritionists, WIC Local Agencies, and at-large public members.  All appointments to the Council are made by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The Council shall meet as often as necessary, as determined by the Chairperson, or at the request of any five (5) members, but no less than one (1) time per year. Advisory Council meetings are open to the public.
