The Center for Cancer
Prevention and Control of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene receives a cooperative agreement from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection
Program. The purpose of this program
is to increase
breast and cervical
cancer screening levels among uninsured, low income women statewide, to provide follow-up to diagnosis, to carry out public and professional education, to assure the quality of screening
services, to monitor
the cancer problem
in Maryland,
and to carry out evaluation of these programs.
The federal legislation requires the state to provide matching
funds of at least one dollar for every three dollars of federal
funds. Funds under
this program cannot be used to pay for treatment services.

Who can
receive these services?
You may be eligible to receive these services if you:
Are 40 to 64 years
old
Have limited
income
Have no health insurance
or insurance that does not completely pay for breast
exams, mammograms, Pap tests, or follow-up
testing
Have health insurance, but have not been able to be screened or get needed follow-up testing.
