Developmental Disabilities Administration shows improvement
in audit follow-up
Legislative office reports significant improvements in most reviewed areas
BALTIMORE (September 2, 2014) – The Maryland General Assembly’s Office of Legislative Audits (OLA) released a follow-up review of the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene’s Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) that highlights significant strides in operations in the areas reviewed.
Of the seven audit findings from its October 2013 audit report that it reviewed again this year, OLA found five as corrected, characterized one as demonstrating substantial progress and deemed one as being in progress.
“We are pleased with OLA’s follow-up report noting the positive results of the measures we’ve instituted to strengthen internal controls,” said DHMH Secretary Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein. “Operating better translates into improved support for Marylanders.”
DDA is continuing to strengthen its processes and procedures, focusing on quality enhancement, access to services and fiscal accountability.
“The way forward for DDA incorporates improved operations, programmatic excellence, inclusion of clients’ voices and leveraged, key partnerships for improved client outcomes,” said DDA Director Bernard A. Simons.
