Eligible Hospitals
Eligible Hospitals (EHs) can qualify for incentive payments if they adopt, implement, upgrade, or demonstrate meaningful use of certified Electronic Health Records technology during the first year of participation.
In subsequent participation years, eligible hospitals must demonstrate meaningful use of certified Electronic Health Records technology. Hospitals that qualify for incentive payments under the Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive Program may receive payments through 2021.
Hospital Qualifications
If hospitals qualify for both the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive Programs, they may receive incentives from both programs.
Acute care hospitals with at least 10% Medicaid patient volume may be eligible for Medicaid Electronic Health Records incentive payments. Children's hospitals have no Medicaid volume requirements to be eligible for Medicaid Electronic Health Record incentive payments.
A hospital eligible for Medicare Electronic Health Records incentive payments must at least be located in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia. Critical Access Hospitals and Medicare Advantage Hospitals may also be eligible to receive Medicare Electronic Health Records incentive payments. Complete information on the Medicare Electronic Health Records Incentive Program is available from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
