COVID-19 Testing Information

The Talbot County Health Department’s COVID-19 Testing Site performs COVID-19 testing daily Monday through Friday in Easton, MD.

The site obtains nasopharyngeal samples with a swab in your nose. The sample is run through the RT-PCR (reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction) process to provide a positive or negative result. This is the most sensitive and specific type of COVID testing available, and is considered the gold standard.

Most samples will be sent to an offsite lab for processing. The lab charges your health insurance for processing the test, but there are no out-of-pocket expenses (no copays, no coinsurance).

If you have health insurance, please bring your card with you to the test site. If you do not have health insurance, there will be no cost to you, and you will be asked to sign a form verifying you do not have health insurance coverage.

You DO need to present identification so that we record your name and phone number correctly.

You DO NOT need a doctor’s order or prescription to get tested.

You will NOT be asked questions about immigration or legal status.

Due to significantly increased demand since early August, we require appointments at this time.
